Regular Folks in Space in the Movies
Billionaire adventurer Richard Branson’s passenger space ship, SpaceShipTwo, fired its rocket engine in flight for the first time yesterday. The test is one step on the way to Branson’s goal of offering rides to paying customers sometime in the next year. His company Virgin Galactic is selling rides on the ship for $500,000 per person; over 500 people have put down deposits on their fare. Branson hopes to take a trip in the spacecraft with his adult children in about a year.

While passengers on SpaceShipTwo will be among the first paying customers to ride in space, the idea of ordinary people traveling into space has captured the human imagination for hundreds of years.

It’s official: they are going to remake the John Hughes classic Weird Science. But, read on a bit before groaning in resignation. There is evidence this remake might actually be good.

Chillin’ with the Stars at the MTV Movie Awards
Last night, I got an awesome opportunity: instead of interviewing the stars on the red carpet, I got to hang out with them in the A-lister seats at the MTV Movie Awards. Due to the generosity of a super lucky friend, I was way up front for the awards, surrounded by celebs and enjoying a killer view of everything going on on-stage.

    The Web’s Best Supercuts
Monday’s “Nicolas Cage Losing His Shit” supercut sent me on a mission: I decided I must find more of these awesome fan tributes to favorite movies and movie tropes.
Not sure what a supercut is? They’re simply scenes, a lot of them, that have one single strong element in common. The best ones transition smoothly from scene to scene, relating one to the next without seeming repetitious. Some are funny, some are reminders of awesome movie moments.

Roger Ebert, Legendary Film Critic, Passes Away at 70
He’s been known and loved as a movie critic for many years, and stuck with his career until the very end. Just two days ago, Roger Ebert announced to his fans and readers that he’d be slowing down his amount of work due to cancer reappearing in his body. But today, the man everyone knew as the second hand in the “two thumbs up” team of Siskel & Ebert has passed away at age 70.
